Constantine.. has developed a distinctive language of constructed figuration, using exaggerated anatomy, flattened planes, graphic form and assertive colour to create characters and cultural archetypes. Through costume, gesture and familiar objects, his figures explore identity as something constructed, performed and continually reimagined.

Moving between invented characters, familiar archetypes and recurring personae, the paintings use distortion freely: anatomy is extended, compressed and reconstructed according to the demands of the image rather than naturalistic representation. Characters emerge through visual signs — a hat, cigar, costume, gesture or object — allowing identity to shift between painter, outlaw, gentleman, Vigilante and other performed roles.
