Learn printmaking through practical, accessible workshops designed and taught by Edinburgh-based artist Constantine..

Printmaking Made Simple introduces three different printmaking processes using techniques that don't require expensive printing presses or specialist facilities.

Whether you're a complete beginner or already have some creative experience, the workshops are designed to give you the practical knowledge and confidence to create your own prints and continue experimenting independently at home.

No previous printmaking experience required. All essential materials are provided.

How it works

The course runs across the first three Tuesdays of each month, with each Tuesday dedicated to a different printmaking technique.

First Tuesday — Monotype Printing
Explore ink, texture, mark-making and composition to create unique one-off prints.

Second Tuesday — Linocut Printing
Learn how to design, carve, ink and print your own lino block by hand.

Third Tuesday — Drypoint Etching
Create your own drypoint plate and learn an accessible approach to inking and printing without relying on specialist studio equipment.

Each workshop combines demonstrations, hands-on making and individual guidance. You'll produce your own work during the session and take your finished prints home with you.

Printmaking you can continue at home

A central idea behind Printmaking Made Simple is that printmaking doesn't need to depend on expensive presses or access to a specialist studio.

The techniques are taught with accessibility and independence in mind, using approaches that can be recreated inexpensively at home.

The aim isn't simply to make a print during the workshop, but to leave understanding the process well enough to continue experimenting for yourself.

Who are the workshops for?

The workshops are suitable for complete beginners as well as people with previous creative experience.

You don't need to consider yourself an artist or arrive with a finished design. The emphasis is on learning through making, experimenting with the process and developing your own ideas with guidance along the way.

All essential materials are included.

Constantine was a great teacher, he offered me really good technical instruction, some great tips on composition and how to prioritise different parts of my design, and was most encouraging when I thought things were starting to go slightly wrong! He's a very interesting guy and excellent company for a couple of hours while undertaking this most absorbing of creative processes.
