ABOUT
Constantine.. is an Athens-born, Edinburgh-based contemporary artist whose practice spans painting, public intervention, performance, moving image and publishing. Painting remains the foundation of his practice, alongside an expanding body of site-responsive work developed under the term Rogue Intervention.
Constantine.. has developed a distinctive language of constructed figuration, using exaggerated anatomy, flattened planes, graphic form and assertive colour to create characters and cultural archetypes. Through costume, gesture and familiar objects, his figures explore identity as something constructed, performed and continually reimagined.
Recurring characters move through the work as painters, outlaws, Vigilantes, mythological figures and versions of the artist himself. Across bodies of work including FLUXUS, VIGILANTE, Myth and/or Mythology.. and A Collection of Quotidian Masterpieces, these figures shift between the theatrical and the everyday, allowing familiar identities and cultural imagery to become unstable, contradictory and open to reinterpretation.
In 2024, an independent portfolio review of FLUXUS by Quentin Métayer, formerly Communications Director at Perrotin, highlighted Constantine..'s handling of technique, composition and colour, and the work's contemporary relationship with art history.
Alongside his studio practice, Constantine.. creates Rogue Interventions: independently initiated, site-responsive works introduced into public and semi-public environments outside conventional exhibition structures. Through objects, images, actions, projections, signs and temporary installations, the works explore artistic freedom, authority, ownership, cultural value and the boundaries surrounding where and how art is encountered.
Where the paintings construct characters and identities, the Rogue Interventions construct encounters. Location, audience response, uncertainty and the subsequent life of the work become part of its meaning.
In 2025, Constantine.. was Artist in Residence at Virgin Hotels Edinburgh, where he significantly expanded VIGILANTE through painting, installation and performance. The residency culminated in a public presentation of the developing work, followed later that year by VIGILANTE Returns at St Margaret's House, Edinburgh. A film developed from the project, directed by Nicholas Grant, subsequently received selections through several independent film festivals.
In 2026, Constantine.. presented Please Respect This Rogue Intervention, his first exhibition dedicated to bringing together his intervention practice through moving image, objects, artefacts and documentation. Later that year, his solo exhibition A Collection of Quotidian Masterpieces at Torrance Gallery, Edinburgh, brought together recent paintings characterised by recurring figures, cultural imagery, theatricality and absurdity.
His work has been featured by Artmag and other arts and cultural media, and has been presented through exhibitions, performances, interventions, publications and moving-image projects in Edinburgh and beyond.
Constantine.. continues to develop painting and Rogue Intervention as two interconnected strands of a wider practice concerned with identity, performance, authority, freedom and the unstable relationship between image, context and meaning.

ARTIST STATEMENT
My work begins with identity — how it is constructed, performed, exaggerated and contradicted.
Painting is the foundation of my practice. I use figures and characters to explore the roles we adopt and the images through which we understand ourselves and others. Anatomy is stretched, flattened and reconstructed; costume, gesture and familiar objects become signs through which a character can be recognised while remaining unstable.
Figures recur across the work as artist, hero, villain, god, clown, Vigilante, outlaw and versions of myself. I am interested in the point at which these identities become performances, and in the contradictions between how a character appears, what they represent and how they behave.
My Rogue Interventions take related questions beyond the studio. Rather than controlling the complete conditions in which an artwork is encountered, I introduce works into public and semi-public environments where permission, authority, ownership, audience and chance become part of the work.
The two strands operate differently but come from the same impulse. In painting, I construct characters and identities. Through Rogue Intervention, I construct encounters.
Across both, I am interested in what happens when familiar roles, images and systems are displaced from where we expect to find them. Humour and absurdity may provide an entry point, but beneath them are questions of power, hypocrisy, freedom and who gets to determine the value, meaning and place of art.
Rather than resolving those contradictions, I use them as material.
